PUNJI

A precursor of the clarinet and bagpipes, the bin or punji is a kind of double clarinet which has a large gourd as a chamber wind (its mouthpiece). The canes or reeds (internal squash) are made of the same kind of cane, as the instrument and is simply a small cut cane in a central hub and are inserted at the end of a bigger piece. |

The big performers make use of circular breathing to create continuous sound typical, in that many of these instruments is a challenge. (This is probably why someone invented this system pumpkin that contains both nozzles internal and air bag). |

This instrument is very common in India and Pakistan, using it as charming of snakes (mainly to the deadly cobra). It is said that this was used together with the Cobras flute as a threat, and thus demonstrated a supernatural power over snakes. Some people think that the charge is attracted by the sound of Punji, but snakes have no ears. The charming snake movements so the snake was attracted in the form erect similar movements describing the movement of Punji. | ||
